Ghulam Rafique’s impact on youth cricket in the UK has been remarkable, and his recognition as "Coach of the Year' by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2021 highlights his exceptional dedication. Serving as the Academy Director of New Rover Cricket Club, Rafique's journey with the club began eight years ago when New Raver CC lacked a junior section altogether. Through his tireless efforts, he introduced a robust "high performance coaching programme that now supports over 30 young athletes, many of whom compete in county and regional age groups.
Under Rafique’s leadership, New Rover's junior cricket program has grown from seasonal training to a year round development academy. His influence has been pivotal in shaping the club's junior teams, particularly the under-13 and under 15 squads. which achieved an extraordinary feat by winning the prestigious ECB Vitality Cup as Yorkshire champions last summer.
For his dedication, Rafique was honoured by ECB, underscoring his lasting commitment to developing young talent and his transformative role at the Leeds-based club. His work has not only strengthened the foundation of New Rover CC but has also set a benchmark for youth cricket development in the region.
